چکیده

The objectives of this experiment were to determine the effects of high dietary levels of vitamin E on growth performance and pulmonary hypertension syndrome (PHS) mortality. Male broiler chicks (Cobb 500) were randomly assigned to one of four dietary treatments consisting of standard starter and grower diets supplemented with 0, 17, 46, and 87 mg dl-atocopherol acetate/kg. To encourage the development of PHS, air temperature in the house was 32 and 28 C for Weeks 1 and 2, dropped to 18 C during Week 3, and kept between 10 and 15 C during Weeks 4 through 7. Also, chicks were placed in floor pens on litter used for five previous flocks and ventilation reduced to increase dust and ammonia in the house. Ammonia levels increased from an initial 18 to 36 ppm on Day 42 with the increase in ammonia corresponding to an obvious increase in dust in the air. Lung and liver tissue obtained at 2, 5, and 7 wk of age were analyzed for tissue aand g-tocopherol by liquid chromatography. Dietary vitamin E had no effect on body weight, feed intake, or feed efficiency. Cumulative PHS mortality through 7 wk of age was 21% and was also unaffected by dietary treatment. Liver and lung a-tocopherol concentrations exhibited a dose-response increase to dietary tocopherol and there was a high correlation between lung and liver tissue a-tocopherol (r = 0.72, P < 0.05). Whereas g-tocopherol concentrations in lung and liver were unaffected by dietary treatment, liver and lung exhibited age-dependent increases in both aand g-tocopherol. Despite dose-dependent increases in tissue a-tocopherol, supplementation of diets with up to 87 mg dl-a-tocopherol acetate had no effect on growth performance or PHS mortality in broilers under the conditions used in this study. The present study examined the antioxidant defense of glutamine on plasma and liver antioxidant status in broilers under PHS with respect to changes in the levels of lipid peroxidation marker malondialdehyde (MDA), total antioxidant status (TAS) and the activities of anti peroxidative enzymes [superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione dependent antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPX)]...

Effects of Dietary Guanidinoacetic Acid Supplementation on Performance, Blood Parameters and Meat Quality of Male Broilers with Cold-Induced Ascites

The effects of dietary supplemental guanidinoacetic acid (GAA) on performance, biochemical indices and meat pH of broilers with cold-induced ascites were studied. A total of 640 day-old male broiler chicks (Cobb 500) were assigned to four dietary treatments including control diet; control diet supplemented with either 0.6, 1.2 or 1.8 g of GAA per kg of feed. Each treatment was replicated in 8 b...

Genetic Perspective of Ascites Syndrome in Meat-Type Chickens

Pulmonary hypertension syndrome (ascites) is a metabolic disorder in fast-growing broilers. Inconsistency of oxygen requirement and the cardiovascular ability make the birds susceptible to ascites. Incidence of ascites was accompanied by right ventricular hypertrophy, fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity and finally mortality. The objective of the current study was to review the genetic b...

Considering the role of arginine in the prevention of ascites and the possibility of replacing this amino acid with Guanidinoacetic acid (GAA), in present study, the effects of different levels of GAA (0.5 and 1 g/kg diet) supplementation in low-protein diets on growth performance and ascites incidence in broiler chickens were investigated. Therefore, a total of 208 male broilers (Ross 308...

The present study was conducted to compare the supplementation of natural (D-α-tocopherol) and synthetic (DL-α-tocopherol acetate) vitamin E on the growth performance, meat quality, muscular antioxidant capacity and genes expression related to oxidative status of broilers. A total of 144 1 day-old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly allocated into 3 groups with 6 replicates of 8 birds each...
